Keynote Session: Build Your Organization-Wide Culture of Philanthropy for Long-Term Fundraising Success
Presented by Laurie Herrick
This interactive keynote is designed to help leaders understand what a Culture of Philanthropy is and to tap into its power to create fundraising breakthroughs in your organization. Rainmaker Consulting Founder Laurie Herrick will guide you to examine your organization’s current Culture of Philanthropy and find ways to both build on what is working well and create ways to break through the barriers to greater fundraising success. You are encouraged to bring multiple members of your organization, as the team approach is particularly useful when addressing culture change.
We will examine all three elements of culture: behaviors, structures, and hearts & minds. A common misstep for many organizations is to try to build fundraising structures, and take on fundraising behaviors, without first examining the culture. Imagine attempting to build a Culture of Philanthropy when the organizational mindset is that fundraising is a ‘necessary evil’, for example.
Whether these foundational concepts are brand new to you or will be a refresher from previous learning, you will leave this session with practical tools and exercises you can bring back to your organization to build and strengthen your culture and foster generosity, philanthropy, and abundant giving.
About Laurie Herrick
Laurie Herrick is a fundraising consultant and entrepreneur with over thirty years’ experience in the not-for-profit sector. The emphasis of Laurie’s work is creating fundraising breakthroughs by empowering leaders to build a healthy Culture of Philanthropy within their organizations. It’s through fostering this culture shift that Laurie fulfills her personal mission to make positive social change. As a result of this work, Laurie wrote Choose Abundance – Powerful Fundraising for Nonprofits: A Culture of Philanthropy.
Laurie has served in numerous professional and volunteer roles. She’s been a development director, executive director, board member and board chair of a variety of organizations. These experiences led to her profound awareness of the challenges they were facing. One of the noteworthy obstacles she observed in her role as a consultant was the way the culture, and specifically a destructive mindset of scarcity, blocked fundraising success.
She built a coaching approach that addressed this mindset and trained organizational leaders to build a culture that came from a mindset of resource abundance. This shift, along with healthy structures and aligned behaviors, has altered the overall fundraising strategy and created fundraising breakthroughs in countless organizations.
Laurie founded Rainmaker Consulting in 2003. Laurie and the Rainmaker Consulting team have worked with hundreds of organizations to embark on a journey of building stronger organizations. Whether the engagement is strategic planning, fundraising campaigns, capital campaigns or board governance, a Culture of Philanthropy is infused into the work.
