Keynote Session: Grants Are Great - But Individuals Are Indispensable! Leverage the Untapped Potential of Individual Donors
Presented by Robbe Healey, ACFRE

Grantseeking is often the lifeblood of startup and small to midsized nonprofits. Leaders may settle into a comfortable pattern of grant funding … and “forget” to invest in starting a good individual giving program. Challenging times often rekindle the conversation about diversifying revenue streams. But where to start?

If your experience was like mine, you met a lot of new classmates in Middle School. The people you became friends with were the ones you had something in common with, saw regularly, enjoyed learning more about, wanted to become more involved with, and spent time with. Donor engagement is a lot like that! It starts with a first encounter and grows from there – if it is properly nurtured. Growing strong relationships depend on the donors’ interests, your mission, the ways you interact – and when and how you follow through. You stay with your good friends through thick and thin. Successful nonprofits do the same. They develop relationships, nurture connections, and stay with their donors through thick and thin – even in challenging times. The nonprofits that invest in the right tactics, develop authentic relationships, and stay the course will emerge even from challenging times with loyal donors … grateful that we continued to value them even if their giving changed in the short term.

Participants in this session, you will:

  1. Review generational contact and engagement preferences.
  2. Explore donor engagement tactics from transactional to high-touch relationship.
  3. Develop potential action plans using worksheets as a guide, for developing and maintaining strong relationships even in uncertain times.

Plenary Session: Nonprofits in 2025: Finding Order in Chaos
Presented by Matt Haggerty, Vice President of Finance at Carey & Co.

Nonprofits are, by nature, resilient in the face of change. But even so, 2025 has proved to provide a unique challenge with funding cuts, regulation changes, economic uncertainty, and shifting donor behavior, among other items. The key to wise and prudent decision-making, especially in 2025, is to separate the signal from the noise. Matt Haggerty will present data-driven trends and forecasts. We will consider how these trends are impacting our industry now and into the future, and how nonprofits might respond. When you leave this session, you will have the knowledge and skills to:

  1. Understand the current state of the US macroeconomy and how it relates to nonprofits' experiences.
  2. Identify key donor trends, including shifts in giving vehicles, gift types, and other key concepts for fundraisers.
  3. Develop modern strategies to address current shifts to enhance resilience in the face of change.
