Stories to Action : When Justice Fails: Barriers to Investigating and Prosecuting Trafficking Cases

Wed 9 Dec 2026 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM GMT Online, Zoom

Many survivors of trafficking never see their exploiters held to account. Cases can be difficult to identify, investigate and prosecute, and survivors can face real barriers to being believed, protected and supported through the criminal justice process. This event asks what stands in the way of justice and what needs to change, using the experiences shared in Through the Eyes of Survivors as a starting point.

You will hear a short introduction to the theme, followed by a moderated panel discussion that may include survivor advocates, practitioners, researchers and statutory sector representatives. Where appropriate, a survivor contributor will offer a reflection. The panel will take questions from the audience and finish with recommendations for stronger, more survivor-centred criminal justice responses.

The session is relevant to legal and criminal justice professionals, safeguarding leads, frontline practitioners, policymakers, researchers and survivor advocates. You do not need to have read the book to take part, but we recommend it for more guided information on survivors’ experiences of the justice system. Copies can be added at registration.

We recommend participants read the AFRUCA book: "Through the Eyes of Survivors" to facilitate an informed, inclusive and interactive session. Buy a copy of the book here - https://afruca.org/through-the-eyes-of-survivors
