From Stories to Action ( The Hidden Signs: How Education and Health Agencies Can Better Identify and Safeguard Victims)

Wed 20 Jan 2027 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM

Teachers, nurses, doctors and other education and health staff are often among the few professionals who see a trafficked or exploited person. Signs can be easy to miss, and knowing how to respond safely and sensitively is not always clear. This event explores how education and health services can better identify indicators of exploitation and safeguard victims, drawing on the lived experiences in Through the Eyes of Survivors.

After a short introduction to the book and the theme, a moderated panel will discuss what recognition and referral look like in practice, and where systems currently fall short. A survivor contributor may share a reflection where appropriate, and there will be time for audience questions. The session ends with practical recommendations that schools, hospitals and health services can act on.

This event is for teachers, school staff, designated safeguarding leads, doctors, nurses and NHS safeguarding teams, as well as social workers, local authority practitioners and community organisations. We recommend Through the Eyes of Survivors for more guided information, and it is useful reading for staff training and learning. You can add a copy when you register.

We recommend participants read the AFRUCA book: "Through the Eyes of Survivors" to facilitate an informed, inclusive and interactive session. Buy a copy of the book here - https://afruca.org/through-the-eyes-of-survivors
