From Stories to Action : Exploitation Behind Closed Doors: Domestic Servitude and Labour Exploitation

Wed 17 Mar 2027 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM GMT Online, Zoom

Some of the most serious exploitation happens out of sight, in private homes and in workplaces where people are isolated, controlled and afraid to ask for help. Domestic servitude and labour exploitation can be hard to spot and hard to prove. This event looks at how we recognise and respond to exploitation behind closed doors, and what survivors need in order to be protected and supported.

The session opens with a short introduction to the book and theme, followed by a moderated panel of speakers from practice, research and survivor advocacy. A survivor contributor may share a reflection where appropriate. You will have the chance to put your questions to the panel, and the event ends with key recommendations for frontline practice and policy.

We welcome frontline practitioners and safeguarding professionals, employment and labour rights specialists, policymakers, researchers, and community and faith groups. For more guided information on the issues raised, we recommend reading Through the Eyes of Survivors. Copies can be added when you register.

We recommend participants read the AFRUCA book: "Through the Eyes of Survivors" to facilitate an informed, inclusive and interactive session. Buy a copy of the book here - https://afruca.org/through-the-eyes-of-survivors
