Survivors are often asked to share their stories, but less often invited to shape the research, policies and services that affect their lives. This event asks how survivors can move from being heard to leading, and what meaningful, ethical involvement looks like. It is inspired by Through the Eyes of Survivors, in which 25 former and present beneficiaries share their own experiences in their own words.
The session begins with a short introduction to the book and the theme, followed by a moderated panel of survivor advocates, practitioners, researchers and, where possible, statutory sector representatives. There will be time for audience questions and discussion, and the session closes with practical recommendations for involving survivors as partners and decision-makers.
This conversation is for survivor leaders and advocates, researchers and academics, policymakers, commissioners and funders, and service providers and community organisations. We recommend reading Through the Eyes of Survivors for more guided information on what survivors have shared about their experiences. You can add a copy when you register.
We recommend participants read the AFRUCA book: "Through the Eyes of Survivors" to facilitate an informed, inclusive and interactive session. Buy a copy of the book here - https://afruca.org/through-the-eyes-of-survivors
