Age UK Wigan Borough is a local charity supporting people aged 50 and over across our borough. For more than 30 years, we’ve helped thousands of local residents deal with the everyday challenges that can come with later life — from money worries and loneliness to staying safe and independent at home. We are independent, locally based, and focused on practical help that makes a real difference to people’s lives here in Wigan.

We support people who may still be working, raising families or caring for others, as well as those who are retired or living alone. Many are managing on tight budgets, coping with health changes, or feeling isolated after bereavement or a major life change. Often, people come to us because they don’t need specialist support — they just want clear advice, a bit of help at home, or someone to talk to.

Our services are straightforward and hands‑on. We help people check they’re getting the money they’re entitled to, including benefits many don’t realise they can claim. We also provide trusted help at home, such as cleaning, shopping, and small repairs, helping people stay safe, warm and independent in the homes they love.

Just as important is tackling loneliness. Through our Bright Days activity programme and social groups, we help people get out, meet others and feel part of their community. Something as simple as a regular coffee morning or activity group can have a huge impact on confidence, health and wellbeing.

Why does this matter? Because when older people feel supported, secure and connected, the whole community benefits. Friends and family feel reassured and pressure on NHS and social care services is reduced.

By backing Age UK Wigan Borough, you make a difference in your local community — helping older residents live with dignity, independence and confidence, right here at home.
