Re/Training in the Void
This October, Agora Artists is proud to bring local dancers a workshop with our friends at ARCOS from Austin, TX!
Experience Level: 🔥 (trying something new--all levels!)
Re/Training in the Void
ARCOS Co-Director EG Gionfriddo will facilitate Re/Training, an open-level movement workshop for the Dallas community, presented alongside ARCOS’s touring production Holding Up The Void at Arts Mission Oak Cliff (October 8–10). Re/Training is ARCOS’s core movement system for rigorous personal growth and choreographic generation. In this session, EG verbally guides participants through a stream-of-consciousness, intuitive movement arc designed to blend deep anatomical awareness, exploratory risk, and continuous movement. Together, we’ll challenge physical and imaginative stamina while blurring the boundaries between training and play. Using this method as a warm-up, the session will transition into creative research using physical mechanisms from the Void project, including cinder blocks, cassette players, and live sound manipulation. ARCOS dancers co-facilitate the session as active participants and guides for working safely with physical materials. The session will conclude with a reflection discussion as a group.
About Holding Up the Void | Thu 10/8 - Sat 10/10 | 7:30pm–9:30pm
ARCOS’s experimental performance moves interchangeably between dance and American Sign Language as dancers grapple with the gritty work of growing older, manipulate tape machines that record and replay them, and invite the audience to change seats, shift their perspective, and join them in holding up the Void.

About ARCOS
ARCOS is a multi/trans/inter/anti-disciplinary group using dance and technology to imagine better futures for us all together. We primarily create via a method of hacking, or repurposing everyday technologies into performance, to inspire others to become more regular hackers of the systems in which we are made to operate. We hold an expansive understanding of technology that includes language, movement systems (like dance), and identity construction, as well as our material devices and the less visible network infrastructures that they access. We understand our bodies as highly intelligent, already hybrid, and existing in multiple spaces in nonlinear time. We consider our process and performance projects as rehearsals for survival in an increasingly complex world; growing our capacity to hold that complexity in ourselves and with each other.
