STEM IS CHILD'S PLAY FOUNDATION ANNOUNCES "FISHING FOR CHANGE"
A TEEN GIRL FISHING ADVENTURE
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — STEM Is Child's Play Foundation invites youth and families to participate in Fishing for Change, a free STEM Fishing Adventure designed to introduce girls to fishing, environmental science, conservation, and outdoor recreation.
The program will take place at Tingley Beach on July 11, July 18, July 25, and August 1 from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. The shorter morning schedule ensures participants can enjoy the event before summer temperatures rise. We will meet at the Central Pond at 7:30.
YOU CAN KEEP UP TO 4 TROUT AND 2 CATFISH.
While the program is designed to encourage more girls to participate in fishing and outdoor STEM activities, boys are welcome to register and participate. Youth must attend with a responsible adult age 21 or older (parent, grandparent, aunt, uncle, older sibling, mentor, or family friend). Teams will learn fishing techniques, water science, aquatic ecology, conservation, and outdoor safety while participating in friendly competitions.
Participants are free to bring their own rods, reels and bait. Fishing rods and bait will be provided for all who need it.
Participation is free, but a $10 registration fee is required to secure a position. Due to limited space and equipment, unregistered participants cannot be accommodated.
Cash Prizes & Contests
Participants will compete for cash prizes in four distinct fishing contests:
- Biggest Fish — $50 Prize
- Most Fish Caught — $50 Prize
- First Fish Caught — $25 Prize
- Smallest Fish (“Tiny Catch Award”) — $25 Prize
