Length: Three hours
Embark on a journey to up your embroidery game with our intermediate embroidery workshop. Designed for those with a foundational understanding of embroidery techniques, this course invites you to deepen your skills while exploring the intersection of craft and activism.
In this workshop, you will explore more complex stitching techniques, such as bullion stitch, French knots, and satin stitch variations. You will also engage in a discussion of the significance of embroidery as a form of social change. All materials will be provided.

Supplies Included: Materials include a simple project, embroidery hoop, needle, needle threader, thread, and snipes.

Minimum Age: 18

This workshop requires a minimum of 5 students. If that number is not met, the class may be cancelled and all registered students will receive a full refund.
Meet the Teacher
Wilhelmina Thomas
Wilhelmina Thomas was raised on the west side of Birmingham, Alabama, during the 1960s and 1970s. She had the privilege of participating in art classes at Riley Elementary, Jones Valley High School, and UAB. At UAB, Thomas majored in Theater and minored in Art History. She did not earn a degree until 2016 when she earned an Associate of Science in Computer Aided Drafting and an Associate in Graphic Arts in 2017.
Her first art show was in 2019 at Studio2500. She is a part of the Bib & Tucker SewOP. Thomas has assisted with their Quarks, Recycle Runway, and After School programs at Woodlawn and North Avondale Libraries. She developed and executed a Hand Sewing programming for ConPossible 2025 and is a facilitator for the JMCP Memorial Lynching Quilt Project. She believes hand embroidery is a mindful exercise that feeds the soul, making stuff makes happiness.
