Introduction to Linocut 

DATE: Saturday 20th April

In this one day workshop, you will be introduced to the principles of the dynamic and addictive process of linocut printing. We will practice using lino cutting tools and learn how to care for and maintain them. We will design a one colour linocut image and transfer it to the block, before cutting, inking and printing. We will learn how to hand print linocuts using a spoon or Japanese bamboo baren, and compare the results to printing with a Victorian Albion press. This workshop is suitable for beginners, or printmakers who have not done any relief printing for some time and need a refresher.

This course is intended for adults and limited to 6 participants. Booking is essential. Further course information and what to bring on the day will be sent to all participants via email in advance of the workshop.

Please note:

Clothing: We will be working with inks that do not easily wash out of clothing. Wear old clothes and bring an apron/old shirt etc. as cover-up. Avoid loose, dangly sleeves, which can be a safety hazard.

Food and drinks: East Quay Kitchen offers a delicious menu that caters for most dietary preferences, but you are welcome to bring your own lunch and snacks to eat in the studio or the courtyard. Tea and coffee will be provided.

Parking: There is no on-site parking for visitors to East Quay. Harbour Road pay and display car park is convenient but costly. There is unrestricted parking along Doniford Road, and other residential streets off of that, a very short walk to East Quay via Goviers Lane.

If you have to cancel:

Please let us know as early as possible if you are unable to attend.

The following charges will apply dependent on notice given:

• More than 4 weeks prior to course: A full refund will be given.

• 1-4 weeks prior to course: 50% of course fee will be retained by Albatross Print Studio

• Less than 7 days’ notice: 100% of course fee will be retained by Albatross Print Studio

• If you do not attend a course and have not previously informed us, 100% of the fee will be retained by Albatross Print Studio.

IF WE HAVE TO CANCEL:

We will keep you informed if there is any threat of a course not running or if there are not enough participants to make it viable. We will cancel at short notice only in the case of an emergency, such as illness of the tutors or extreme weather affecting access to and use of the building. We will do our best to give participants at least one weeks’ notice of cancellation. If we have to cancel a course 100% of course fees will be refunded.
