Alborada’s Pablo Navarrete is joined by authors Matt Kennard and Victor Figueroa Clark to discuss the new edition of their respective books The Racket: A Rogue Reporter vs The American Empire (Bloomsbury, 2024) and Chile's Allende: Life and Revolutionary Legacy (LeftWord Books, 2023). We will explore the lessons of Latin American political history, including Chile under Salvador Allende for today’s global left and those resisting US imperialism across the world. We will also discuss Israel’s US-sponsored genocide in Gaza and the case of imprisoned journalist Julian Assange.

Both books will be available to buy on the night.

Matt Kennard is Head of Investigations at Declassified UK. He was a fellow and then director at the Centre for Investigative Journalism in London. He is the author of Irregular Army (Verso, 2012) and The Racket (Zed Books, 2015) and the co-author, with Clare Provost, of Silent Coup (Bloomsbury, 2023).

Victor Figueroa Clark is a contributing editor of Alborada, taught history at the London School of Economics (UK) and is an expert on the history of the Latin American left. He is the author of Salvador Allende: Revolutionary Democrat (Pluto Press, 2013).
