“Matt Kennard’s perceptive direct reporting and analysis of policy exposes 'the racket' that dominates much of global society.” - Noam Chomsky
Alborada and Peter Watt (University of Sheffield) host a discussion by author and investigative journalist Matt Kennard. Kennard will be in Sheffield to discuss his latest book, The Racket: A Rogue Reporter vs The American Empire (Bloomsbury, 2024). We will explore the lessons for progressives of Latin America's political history and those resisting US imperialism in the region and beyond.
The discussion will be followed by a book signing. Books will be available to buy on the night.
Matt Kennard is former Head of Investigations at Declassified UK. He was a fellow and then director at the Centre for Investigative Journalism in London. He is the author of Irregular Army (Verso, 2012) and The Racket (Zed Books, 2015) and the co-author, with Clare Provost, of Silent Coup (Bloomsbury, 2023).
Dr Peter Watt is a senior lecturer at the University of Sheffield. He is also the host of the Alborada podcast 'The Americas Uncovered'.
The event will be introduced by Pablo Navarrete, founding editor of Alborada and director of Alborada Films. He is a documentary filmmaker and video journalist focusing on Latin America.
