Nature journaling is a creative practice founded in deep observation of nature and the growing of a personal connection (or reconnection) to the natural world. It is a calming, restorative practice of slowing down and taking notice, with the intention of finding new things to see every day in your local environment…even if you think you already know it well.
There are no rules on how to keep a nature journal, so this activity is truly for everyone and anyone. No prior experience is needed in art or writing, and all materials will be provided (A5 Seawhite sketchbook and illustrated nature journaling guide for you to keep, other art materials for use in the session only).
Structure of the day:
10-10:45 - Introductions and examples
10:45-Lunch - Nature journaling walk along the River Coly, via Chantry Bridge and Heathayne, returning via the lane.
Lunch Break at the studio (bring a packed lunch!)
1:45-4:00 - Making a nature journaling page based on the morning walk using Derwent Inktense pencils
A moderate level of mobility is needed for the walk (approx 2 miles). Bring a camping chair, floor mat or similar if you prefer to sit (there are a few benches along the route too). Refreshments available (tea, coffee, biscuits) at the studio. Free parking available on site.
