This two-hour workshop, presented by award-winning author Hiba Noor Khan will give you a great grounding in the basics of writing for children. The session will cover everything from choosing your readership and concept to developing plot and characterisation, with time for questions. Participants will also get the chance to join a writing group after the workshop, offering further support and an all-important writing community.
Workshop organiser All Stories offers free development opportunities to talented writers from underrepresented backgrounds. The 2024 programme includes writing workshops and writing groups. To register, you must be over 18, reside in the UK and from an underrepresented group. This is defined as those who identify as a person of colour, LGBTQ+, disabled, neurodiverse, working class or socio-economically disadvantaged.
This is a free event but places are limited. If you are unable to attend please contact us as soon as possible so that your place can be offered to someone on the waiting list.
Meet your workshop host: Hiba Noor Khan
Hiba Noor Khan is the award-winning author of seven books for children. These include her debut novel; Safiyyah's War, which won the Indie Book Award and Jhalak Prize in 2024, and was shortlisted for the prestigious Carnegie Medal, as well as the Kirkus Prize in the USA. She has written a picture book - The Little War Cat, and non-fiction; Inspiring Inventors and One Home.
Her books have been recognised by numerous national awards and have been translated into over ten languages, and her newest novel; The Line they Drew Through Us, explores the Partition of India and is due to publish in April '25. Her academic background is in engineering/physics, and she has worked as a journalist, a refugee advocate, assisted the United Nations IOM, and has recently completed an MA at SOAS exploring Muslim Minorities in Global Contexts. She has three fluffy cats and is happiest when surrounded by nature.
