FAITH by Meg Pickup and Taruna Nalini
To be a woman is to love and to survive
Colly, Kaia, Mercy and Theo have been friends for over a decade, they’ve been there for it all: promotions, break-ups, sickness, health and more. They know the value of true love, platonic and romantic; what it means to have people who truly believe in you. At the end of the day, your friends are your true family.
A woman close to them goes missing and the group grapples with what it means to survive in a world where violence against women and girls is so prevalent and so affecting.
This piece examines how the fallout from such an event affects women in society. How social media trolls throw their two-pence in, the anger felt when women are told to be responsible for their own safety, but even when all safety precautions are followed, women are still killed at an alarming rate and the disparity in media coverage and outrage when a white woman goes missing comparatively to women of colour. If nothing ever changes, can there even be a happy ending?
The Company
Uncaged Theatre is a South West based production company built by four-friends who wanted to showcase early career creative’s work. They set about creating an annual showcase, sourcing new writers, directors and actors based in the South West. This showcase has grown with each run, and recently went on tour to sold-out audiences.
Billie, Nicky, Taruna and Meg have over 50 years combined experience in the theatre industry from tech design, writing, casting and performance. They combine these skills to introduce early career creatives into the theatre world, guiding and advising them on the best way to develop their new writing pieces.
