Description
Fresh from a sell-out run, this dark comedy about a woman (sometimes funny) and her vampire (kills every night) is a battle cry for decaying defiantly, because...how far would you go?
Degenerate is a comedy-horror show that explores the experience of being a woman in a youth-obsessed culture. On an evening when everything seems set against her, our heroine, Maria, attempts to perform her totally-tourable, debut, one-woman, tech-light(ish) show; keeping calm and carrying on in the face of endless interruptions and disruption!
She tries everything to keep the show on the road (stories, song and dance, pom poms, avocados character comedy, fake blood – just not in that order). She is driven closer to the edge and finally decides to take control of the narrative and reclaim her identity, celebrating womanhood in all its messy glory!
Degenerate is ‘a whimsically scary ride’ (Horror Obsessive) exploring the existential fear of ageing and the horror of invisibility, before channelling Final Girl energy in a bloody finale of freedom and self-acceptance. Expect ‘a whirlwind of vampires, trust falls and awkward “amateur” comedy’ (Fringe Biscuit). A battle cry for decaying defiantly because… how far would you go?
