Drama Workshop - Deeper Reaches
Thu 27 Feb 2025 11:00 AM - 5:00 PM GMT
Alma Tavern and Theatre, BS82HY
Description
THEATRE WORKSHOP
Open to actors, theatre makers and playwrights
This workshop will explore the relationship between 'surface dialogue' and the 'poetic monologues' used in drama to deepen experience and open doors which can provide insight into ourselves, our connection to others and the world we all live in.
It will also explore the use of ritual, symbolism and metaphor, which have been powerful devices in the theatre since the earliest dramas were made. The Greeks, Shakespeare, Lorca, Brecht, Beckett and others are good examples of writers who understood and made use of this.
CONTENT
This workshop will worry less about what we do and more about who and how we are. Presence is essential. Less is more will be the approach.
We will develop skills for grounding, opening, speaking from the body and the heart core.
We will be looking at the power of rhythms in speech. Speed, tone, overlaps, pauses, silences.
We will discover exercises to expand our awareness of self and others. to connect with and apply our creative imagination.
We will explore the use of atmospheres and elemental energies in dramatic performance.
We will explore the purpose and practical use of ritual and sound/music within drama.
We will be using the play RIVER by Jez Butterworth as a reference text for our workshop. We may also create some drama of our own.
