Shirley Knot the Siren
8pm Friday
Winner of Hot Ticket award at Halifax Fringe Festival in Canada 2023
Shirley Knot the Siren is a captivating musical comedy shining a light on the issues of ageing.
Based on the fable of A Little Mermaid, the show features Shirley, a vivacious older siren, trying to navigate the complexities of an underwater society that no longer ‘sees’ her.
Refusing to be defined by her age or circumstances, Shirley, a struggling Merworld musician, has hit breaking point after a life of towing the fishing line. Escaping from under her rock, to which she had been banished for ageing, Shirley has decided to come on land and tell her story.
Shirley Knot’s story celebrates resilience, empowerment and the unbreakable spirit of older women everywhere, through a delightful fusion of comedy, music and poignant storytelling.
“… linked together through show tunes, comic songs and opera. What is remarkable is Shirley’s voice. Powerful, emotive and clear, from the first notes of the first song …” Fringe Review
