Naming The View is a contemporary two-hander drama that explores Coercive Control through two characters from Shakespeare’s The Taming of The Shrew.

Kate publicly stated on her wedding night that, all women should be contented to obey their husband. Thirty years later, Kate is re-imagined in the twenty-first century sitting on a bench staring at the horizon. She is unexpectedly joined by Horton, an irritating acquaintance from her past. Gradually they reveal the truth about their individual married lives and find the courage to break the shackles of controlling partners. They realise that it is never too late to move on and it is never too late to enjoy new horizons.

Praise for Naming the View

"This keenly observed piece offers emotive and affecting insight into how people can become trapped in abusive relationships. It’s about surviving and moving beyond that abuse." - Stage Talk Magazine

"Naming the View is a story of rekindled friendship and healing. Touching and funny, riven with humour and hope. Acknowledging the dedication to the emotional reality of domestic abuse is the highest praise I can give it." - Fenton Coulthurst

"riveting performances... beautifully directed... Naming The View should be performed up and down the country not only to raise awareness to those who are fortunate enough to be untouched by the subject matter, but also to offer hope to those men and women trapped in cruel situations who believe there is no escape."

"Absolutely bloody amazing!" - Everyman Theatre, Cheltenham
