This Never Happened by Phoebe Bell
8pm Tuesday & Wednesday
‘What is truth but what you choose to see and hear?’
This Never Happened is a darkly satirical new play exploring truth, belief, and responsibility in an age of relentless media noise.
Donovan’s world is shaped by ‘The Station’; a political media sphere that offers certainty, outrage, and a clear version of reality. Built from the verbatim language of contemporary news commentary, 'The Station' repeats its narratives until they feel unquestionable. But when that certainty begins to fracture, the foundations of Donovan’s worldview start to shift.
As the play moves between broadcast, conversation, and private moments of doubt, the line between performance and belief becomes increasingly unstable. Blending satire with unsettling realism, This Never Happened asks how stories are constructed, repeated, and defended, and what happens when those stories move beyond the screen and into everyday life.
