Starshore by Marcus Sahir
8pm Wednesday & Thursday
Years after forging friendship in an eating disorder ward, Aadhi and Kara re-unite on a hiking trip to the sea, determined to be new people and put the past behind them. Aadhi has never seen the ocean before. Kara sees it every summer, and can’t wait to show him.
But old demons die hard, and deep waters reflect ugly secrets. As the days go by, the fears they’ve hoped to bury are brought to the surface, and their bond is tested in ways neither could have imagined.
Can starlight be kept? Or do we always fall back to darkness?
Exploring what it means to lose and find yourself, Starshore is a new comedy-drama play about recovery, queer friendship, and the forces of nature that can both destroy and heal us in turn.
Marcus Sahir (writer, performer) has been writing in Bristol since childhood. He has written several productions with Lightbox Theatre (Today I Fought A Tiger, Cardboard Village, The Courts, and Morally Grey), as well as acting in the comedy Second Chancers, which previewed to great critical acclaim at the Alma before transferring to the 2023 Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
A lover of improvised theatre, he also acts in two of The Unscripted Players’ productions (I Don’t Know What You’ll Do This Summer, and G.O.D.S).
