Love, literature and time combine in Edward Derbyshire's new play.
Imagine a time when we might look back upon our lives spent together. What might define our relationship with a partner, and how much is this due to chance or to fate?
MAN and WOMAN recall their first meeting and how their (slightly different) memories of this seminal moment appear now, thirty years later. How has their love for one another changed, and can it survive? Characters from MAN’s favourite book (Anna Karenina) step into their shared consciousness, solipsistically mirroring MAN’s and WOMAN’s individual motivations, joined by a love of tea. Other books (The Last September, The Broken Cup, Destination Chungking, and The Unbearable Lightness of Being) reflect and add to lives defined by a response to literature in a series of seemingly parallel and coincidental events. But there is a train to catch…
