Not Me
The path to wellbeing for people with addictive tendencies? Connections.
Not Me is a thrilling and humorous performance adapted from Marianne Dissard's deeply-engaging and fearless 2019 memoir of trauma and the life of a disordered touring musician. Not your typical recovery memoir - by far - it is a stunning and searing tale from an eccentric musician and artistic powerhouse turned into a beautiful and deeply affecting piece of live performance.
The play flawlessly weaves Dissard's music (Tucson desert rock-meets-Chanson) with excerpts from the book and videos by Dissard and collaborator Julia Alcamo, and showcases performance skills honed by ten+ years on worldwide stages.
“Marianne Dissard is that rare sort of talent: a literary chanteuse who renders the whole world with keen observations, wit, and pathos.” Mitch Cullin (A Slight Trick of the Mind and Tideland)
"Disguised as a contemporary take on one woman's attempt to regain life balance through yoga and self-awareness, the text is actually an existential howl on the order of Duras, Daumal, Bataille." (director Kurt Voss).

"An eccentric character who releases very fine and wonderful records, in fact so eccentric she once toured the French Pyrénées on foot with a donkey". Marc Riley BBC6
"Often improbably funny, too, Not Me is without doubt one of the best books I've read this year." Andrew Smith (Moondust and Totally Wired)
Marianne Dissard is a French-American singer, performer, author, and filmmaker. She is based in Ramsgate, Kent. Her critically-acclaimed desert noir music was recorded and toured worldwide with members of Giant Sand and Calexico (producers of her debut album).
