What is 'ilm al-khaṣā'iṣ?

In pervious year's we have explored the genre of sira and shama'il, and this year we introduce you to the khaṣā'iṣ. The khaṣā'iṣ is the study of what makes the Messenger ﷺ unique: his character, his actions, his essence, and the special gifts given to him and to his Ummah on his account. Classical scholars devoted whole works to this science, among them Bidāyat al-Sūl fī Tafḍīl al-Rasūl by Imam 'Izz al-Dīn ibn 'Abd al-Salām, the text this series is built around. Over five nights, we trace forty of these khaṣā'iṣ, one by one.
