Welcome to Alnwick Walking Tours.

We are a local, independent company dedicated to peeling back the layers of Northumberland's most historic town. While Alnwick is famous for its Castle and Gardens, the real stories lie in the cobbled streets, the dark alleyways, and the forgotten corners that most visitors walk past without a second glance.

We believe that history isn't just about dates and kings; it’s about the people who lived, died, and - according to legend - still linger here.

Whether you are a skeptic, a believer, or just a lover of a good story, we invite you to walk with us.

The Alnwick Ghost Tour

Duration: 60 Minutes | Difficulty: Easy Walking

When the sun sets over the castle, Alnwick changes. Join our guides for a journey through the town’s darker past. From the terrifying curse of the Dirty Bottles to the medieval vampire that stalked Bailiffgate, this is not a walk for the faint-hearted.

We blend documented historical fact with the rich folklore of the North to bring you a tour that is as educational as it is chilling.

Why Walk With Us?

More Than Just Scares

We don't rely on jump scares or cheap tricks. The truth of Alnwick’s history - plagues, battles, and betrayal - is scary enough. Our scripts are researched using local archives and historical records to ensure that even the ghost stories are rooted in the town’s genuine past.

Local Guides, Local Knowledge

Our guides are passionate locals who know the rhythm of the town. We are proud to pay our team fairly and support the local economy. When you book with us, you are supporting a small Northumberland business.

Safety First

We operate fully insured tours with safety-checked routes. We want your pulse to race because of the stories, not the hazards.

A Note from the Founder

"I started Alnwick Walking Tours with a simple goal: to share the stories of this town that you won't find in the guidebooks. Alnwick has a 'dual personality' - friendly and beautiful by day; mysterious by night. I wanted to create an experience that captures that atmosphere perfectly."

Cancellation & Weather Policy

1. The "Rain or Shine" Rule

"This is Northumberland—if we waited for perfect weather, we’d never leave the house!"

  • Our Policy: Tours go ahead in rain, wind, or fog. In fact, bad weather often adds to the atmosphere of a ghost tour. Please dress appropriately (warm coats and sturdy shoes are essential).
  • No Refunds for Rain: We do not offer refunds solely because it is raining.

2. Dangerous Weather (The "Red Alert" Exception)

The only exception is if the Met Office issues a severe weather warning (e.g., dangerous ice, high winds causing risk of falling tiles/branches) that makes walking unsafe.

  • If WE cancel: You will be notified by email/text at least 2 hours before the start time. You will be offered a full refund or a free reschedule to a future date.

3. If YOU Need to Cancel

We understand plans change.

  • More than 24 hours notice: Full refund (minus a small booking fee if your platform charges one).
  • Less than 24 hours notice: No refund. (We have likely turned away other customers to hold your spot).
  • No-Shows: If you do not arrive at the meeting point on time, the tour will leave without you, and no refund will be given.

4. Minimum Numbers

  • The Policy: We require a minimum of 4 people to run a tour.

The Procedure: If the minimum is not met 4 hours before the tour, we may contact you to reschedule or refund your ticket.
