Cyanotype on Glass
with Chiara Salvi

Part 1 · Friday 3 July · 16:30–19:30
Part 2 · Saturday 4 July · 14:30–17:30

This two-part workshop introduces participants to the process of making cyanotype prints on glass using agar agar as a bioplastic sublayer.

Working on glass requires a different approach from cyanotype on paper or fabric: the surface is non-porous, the chemistry cannot absorb in the same way, and each stage — from cleaning to coating, drying, exposure, and washing — needs to be carefully controlled.

Across the two sessions, participants will learn how to prepare glass for coating, how to create and apply an agar agar sublayer, and how this transparent surface can hold the cyanotype chemistry. The workshop will cover surface preparation, coating techniques, drying methods, exposure, washing strategies, and troubleshooting, with attention to the specific challenges of working on a fragile and non-absorbent material.
