Join the Trademark Administrators' Exchange (TMAE) and Perkins Coie for a half-day education event specifically for trademark administrators (TMAs), including paralegals, legal assistants, docketers, and other nonattorney IP professionals.

Participants will learn how to implement emerging technologies into their daily work, hear preliminary results of a recent TMA salary survey, develop strategies for salary and benefit negotiations, network with likeminded peers from the region, and gain valuable insights into the IP industry.

Session Descriptions

Emerging Unscathed: Implementing new technologies

Emerging technologies—up to and including generative AI—have the potential to revolutionize trademark administrators’ lives. The technologies may lighten TMAs' administrative workloads, help them accomplish more, and free them up to do more substantive tasks. It also has the potential to take a lot of time to set up and edit, to produce faulty results, to hallucinate legal precedents, and even to cause ethical concerns. In this panel, experienced and knowledgeable TMAs will discuss which emerging technologies they’ve found most effective and how they've implemented them. In particular, they’ll discuss:

  * Strategies for evaluating emerging technologies
  * Technological solutions they love
  * Solutions they’ve determined aren’t yet ready
  * Suggestions for implementing new tech

TMAE Salary Survey Presentation

The Trademark Administrators' Exchange recently conducted a survey with hundreds of participants answering questions about their tasks, regions, salaries, benefits, and more. Presenters will highlight a few key findings from the survey to help equip the audience with the data they need to know where they stand and what they should seek to ensure their compensation is fair.

Salary Opening: The art of negotiation

Knowing when and how to ask for more money is crucial for success. In this session, participants will break into groups to share their extraodinary wins, their small gains, and unsuccessful attempts at salary negotiations. Armed with salary and benefit information from Alt Legal’s recent TMA salary survey, participants will work together to develop strategies to navigate the complexities of salary discussions with ease and professionalism. The presenters will address:

  * Timing and techniques for starting a salary negotiation
  * Strategies for touting accomplishments
  * Evidence to use to argue for more compensation
  * Non-financial benefits to negotiate for when funds are tight
