Alton Jazz Nights: The Tilly Clark Quintet

Lights down. Bass walking. Prosecco in hand. This is the Saturday night Alton's been missing.

THE VOICE AT THE CENTRE OF IT 🎤

Tilly Clark is one of the most exciting jazz vocalists in the country. Classically trained from a young age, she fell for jazz at 16; the feel of it, the rhythm, the connection with a room. Subsequently, she went on to take a Master's in Jazz at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, graduating with distinction.

Since then she's performed at Cheltenham Jazz Festival, Mostly Jazz Funk & Soul, The Ivy Club in London and the legendary Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland.

She also sings in French, Spanish and Portuguese as naturally as in English, which is why her Bossa Nova and Latin numbers have a warmth and authenticity you'd normally have to travel a very long way to hear. It's a voice that can float a ballad one moment and drive a full swing number the next.

Behind her are five superb musicians on piano, bass, drums, tenor sax and alto sax/flute. 🎹🥁🎺

THE NIGHT 🎶

It starts smooth: Fly Me To The Moon, Summertime, The Girl From Ipanema, All Of Me

Then it lifts: Cheek to Cheek, Moondance, Sway, Fever…a dancefloor ready right in front of the stage.

This isn't background jazz. It's a proper night out for couples, groups, birthdays, or anyone who fancies a brilliant Saturday without leaving Alton.
