Alton Jazz Nights: The Wendy Austen Quintet – Christmas Special

The tree’s up, the shopping’s (nearly) done, and it’s the last Saturday before Christmas. Gather your friends, grab a table and let the band take care of the rest. 🎄

This is Ronnie Scott’s-calibre jazz, right here in Alton. No trains to London, no late taxis home. 🎷

Wendy Austen hails from the North West and now lives on the south coast. She’s sung at Ronnie Scott’s and the Birmingham Jazz Festival, and she’s bringing her quintet to Alton for one night only.

With sophisticated vocals, she takes us back to Berkeley Square, then across the Atlantic to Manhattan and beyond. Songs hand-picked from the great American songbook, this time with a Christmas twist.

Behind her are four superb musicians on piano, bass, drums and tenor sax, alto sax and flute. On piano is Wendy’s real-life husband, Nick Blunn. 🎹🥁🎷

THE NIGHT 🎶

It starts smooth: I Wish You Love, One Note Samba, Summertime, Let There Be Love

Then it lifts: Moondance, Fever, These Boots Were Made For Walkin’… with jazzed-up carols along the way, and of course Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas. 🎅

This isn’t background jazz. It’s a proper Christmas night out for couples, groups, office parties, or anyone who fancies a brilliant Saturday without leaving Alton.

Cabaret-style seating at reserved tables, with a little room to dance in front of the stage. Bar open all evening.
