Description
Children of Eden is a musical composed by Stephen Schwartz. The story comes from the first nine chapters of the book of Genesis and focuses on three key episodes in the Bible: The creation of the world, the expulsion from the garden and fall from grace; and the story of Noah and the flood. The underlying themes have to do with the struggle between parents and children, between obedience and independence, between being cared for and striking out on one’s own. The interpretation of scripture inherent to the script comes from the perspective of our Jewish brothers and sisters. This provides our students an opportunity to appreciate another faith culture and the blessings of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. The music is soaring and spectacular. Stephen Schwartz considers this the best score he’s written, and that is saying something from the composer that brought us Wicked.
