First Friday of April, May, & June | $15-35
Three months. Three boundary-pushing artists. One stage.
Experience the evolving sound of Texas music in Oak Cliff — live and up close.
This spring, Arts Mission Oak Cliff presents three unforgettable nights of live music. On the first Friday of April, May, and June, we welcome a featured artist whose sound captures the spirit of contemporary roots music — where tradition meets reinvention.
In May, we welcome Cory Cross & The Burden, a Texas-born act redefining country music with grit, heart, and raw authenticity. Inspired by legendary songwriters like Townes Van Zandt and John Prine, Cory crafts songs that feel lived-in and deeply personal. Backed by The Burden, his sound blends classic honky tonk instrumentation — steel guitar and fiddle — with the edge of garage rock, creating a performance that is equal parts rough-and-rowdy and tenderly intimate.
Kick off the evening with a two-step dance class at 7:00pm, then stay for a night of live music that invites you onto the dance floor and into the story of the songs.
Presented in partnership with Chasquis Music Group, this series transforms AMOC into an intimate gathering space where music lovers, neighbors, and curious listeners come together to experience artists shaping the sound of today.

More about Cory Cross & The Burden
Texas native Cory Cross has been honing his specific brand of country music for over a decade. Getting his start playing guitar in church, Cory began crafting his own songs after being inspired by songwriters like Townes Van Zandt and John Prine. Now making the rounds at dance halls and dives across Texas, as well as sold-out shows in Los Angeles and New York City, Cory and his band put on a performance that is equal parts rough-n-rowdy and tenderly intimate.
Utilizing classic country instrumentation from steel guitars and fiddle, Cory’s band infuses their style of honky tonk with garage rock energy coming from fuzzy electrics and a thumping rhythm section. The Burden is made up of musicians who each bring their wide and unique influences to create a sound that is both nostalgic and fresh.
Cory‘s debut full-length album, “There’s More”, is a culmination of years of paying dues and cutting teeth. The fourteen songs are an honest look into the life of a working musician who has lived the words he wrote. Cory Cross and the Burden have played with notable and established acts such as Joshua Ray Walker, Summer Dean, and Jeremy Pinnel. They continue to play regularly around Texas at legendary venues like Continental Club in Austin and the famous Stockyards in Fort Worth. Cory Cross and The Burden are now preparing for their upcoming West Coast tour and are currently booking their first tour overseas.
