Ready for a great day of music, food, and "talk story"?
*****DISCOVERY DEAL DISCOUNT SALES BEGIN MONDAY< OCT 7 at 10 AM (Limited time special offer)*****
Anacapa Ukulele is honored to be able to present Walt Keale from Kailua, Hawaii!
Keale’s story is rooted in the traditions of Niihau (Hawaii’s “forbidden island”), where his mother’s family has been for over a thousand years. His father’s Arkansas family, seeds of the Dustbowl migrations to the ag-rich farmland of the San Joaquin Valley, lived humbly among ranchers, farmers, and migrant workers. In his music, you will hear the sounds of Niihau, the bluegrass of the Dustbowl & the Latin rhythms of jarocho (a style of music from the city of Veracruz, Mexico), cumbia & ranchera.
Keale's ancestry is one of Hawaiian and Native American. His stories are fascinating and you will be transported through time and space with his music and "talk story".
By the way, Keale is nephew to the Hawaiian music legend, Uncle Moe Keale, and first-cousin to Skippy and Israel IZ Kamakawiwo’ole. Together with them, he brings forward the voice & presence of the Ancestors.
The concert will be preceded by an optional workshop (make your selection at the time of purchase) in which he will teach a traditional Hawaiian oli (chant), E Ala E. The workshop will cover the deeper meaning of the chant and will include putting the chant to music, so bring your 'ukulele along! (No music stands, please.) At this time, the workshop is being made available only to concert attendees (no stand-alone workshop tickets are being sold).
This will be an event that will bring a flood of emotions into your musical heart and soul. What better way to welcome the time change? Remember to turn your clocks back! Ease into the season with friends old and new!
