Discover Shibari Series - Course 2 + 3 : Floor work & Partial Suspensions (midweek edition)
Mon 24 Feb 2025 6:30 PM - Mon 31 Mar 2025 10:30 PM GMT
Anatomie Studio, SE15 2JR
Description
This course will be taught by Anna Bones, Fred Hatt, Anna Noctuelle, Jenni & Joh. It will run from 7pm to 10pm over 6 Monday evenings starting on February 24th.
Discover Shibari is Anatomie’s signature 4 part shibari progressive series, offering a modern and practical approach to rope bondage. The series will take you from complete beginner to proficient at full suspension over the duration of 4 weekend long courses. We offer a relaxed and non-dogmatic environment for you to discover shibari at your own pace.
This course is a combination of Course 2 and 3. Usually each course is 12 hours of learning (a total of 24 hours for both courses), this combo course will be taught over 18 hours in total and therefore works out more economical.
Course 2 builds on Course 1 and aims to deepen the knowledge of complete floor based ties and shapes. The course will focus on perfecting tension, placement and finishing touches (such as how to tidy leftover ropes, and using ropes to create detailed accents for sensation and aesthetics). We will also contextualise and motivate the ties with regards to partnered play.
The content may vary slightly depending on the group’s preferences and skill level - it will include some of the following:
- “Takate Kote” revision
- “Agura”, “tengu”, arm binder ties, leg opener ties
- Ties with bamboo (lacing and square lashing)
- Hog tie variations
- Hair ties and crotch ties
- “Hojo-jutsu” style ties
- Tying to bedposts
- Intro to breadth play
Course 3 picks up where the previous ones left off and focuses on partial suspensions. Over the course of this weekend we continue our journey upwards this time. We will revise our knowledge of structural harnesses and learn how to apply and secure uplines in order to play with gravity. We will look into more depth into tensioning, placement, sustainability and elements of play, all the while teaching you classic shibari shapes close to the floor.
We will also cover topics such as reading the body, communicating between partners (including non verbal communication tips), how to self-assess, safety tips and how to come out of difficult ties. We will also talk about “pain processing” and bottoming for suspension.

This course will be taught by a variety of teachers including Anna Bones, Fred Hatt, Anna Noctuelle, Jenni & Joh - so that students can get input from different perspectives and styles of play.
Who can come to this class? Are there pre-requisites?
This class has prerequisites for riggers and rope bottoms/models – please make sure you meet these before booking to avoid disappointment on the day.
Completion of Course 1, Introduction to Shibari Course or The Takate Kote evening course gives both riggers and models the necessary prerequisites for this course. You can still join us without having completed these courses with us, but please check that you meet the prerequisites below. If in doubt please get in touch at enquiries@anatomiestudio.com
-Riggers must know how to comfortably tie a structural upper body harness - preferably a two rope Takate Kote - taught to you in a class, workshop, private tuition or reputable online learning platform
-Rope bottoms should be comfortable being tied in an upper body harness - ideally a TK or any other structurally sound harness taught in a class or tuition - and be familiar with the differences between nerve and circulation impingement.
Please note that Fred and Anna’s tying style is TK based. The teachers will refer to the TK throughout the class and use TK for many of the demos. Students are welcome to use other structural harnesses that suit them best and count on teacher support and feedback.
What should I bring and what do I wear?
We have ropes you can use during the class and we have a communal kitchenette, fridge and microwave. Tea and coffee are free but you should bring your food and snacks (we have plates and cutlery you can use). People usually wear comfortable clothing like yoga or dance attire. We advise against loose fitting clothing and also jeans can sometimes feel a bit restrictive to move around in and difficult to tie on.
