This course will be taught by Anna Bones with Alex and Jenni as model co-teachers, and Shaun as TA. The course takes place over 4 consecutive Monday evenings from 7-10pm.

Discover Shibari is Anatomie’s signature 4 part shibari progressive series, offering a modern and practical approach to rope bondage. The series will take you from complete beginner to proficient at full suspension over the duration of 4 weekend long courses. We offer a relaxed and non-dogmatic environment for you to discover shibari at your own pace.

Course 1 is aimed at complete beginners who want to familiarise themselves with the foundational techniques in shibari rope bondage. The course covers everything from safety and communication to the basics of rope handling and body manipulation, as well as the most fundamental ties used in this style of rope.

These include:
- The single column tie & double column tie
- Joining rope
- Basic frictioning
- Basic ties such as: “bunny ears”, the “futomomo” and the “Takate Kote” among others

Soft skills will also be covered throughout, including information about bottoming in rope, playing with rope (including navigating consent), and cultivating lasting and healthy ropey relationships.

Who teaches this class?

This session will be led by Anna Bones, Alex & Jenni.

Anna Bones discovered rope, with her now-husband Fred Hatt, in 2013 and has been in love with it ever since.

Rope quickly escalated from a side hobby to a full-time job, culminating in the opening of Anatomie Studio (the UK's largest and first full-time Shibari space) which she runs with Fred Hatt since 2015.

Anna has taught and performed with her partner all over the world, but her favourite place is still her local hub, where welcoming and teaching beginners is her main passion. From self-tying, bottoming and rigging, Anna loves it all, although she finds being tied the greatest joy of all.

Anna enjoys learning from different teachers and about different Shibari styles, so when she teaches she can cover a range of techniques and approaches. Regardless of motivation or dynamic, she believes rope can be a great tool for self discovery and for building trust and intimacy within healthy partnerships.

Before anything else, Jenni Noon is a dancer. She started dancing from the moment she could walk and took her first ballet class at the age of 3. Later, she started exploring other forms of dance and movement practices, including contemporary dance, contact improvisation, tango, zouk, clowning, mime, butoh and yoga. This mix of experience gives her an interesting perspective on movement and connection, which she also brings to her shibari practice.

Jenni Noon started exploring shibari as a bottom in 2021. She enjoys many styles, but her highest value is connection. Her experience in rope has primarily been led by the relationships she’s formed with other shibari lovers over time. Her people are kind-hearted and analytically-minded, and she enjoys connecting with their softer sides.

Jenni Noon lives in London, where she mainly works as a yoga teacher and economist. Sometimes she feels like she lives two parallel lives, with her creative and analytical sides constantly competing for her attention. Shibari is a place where she feels whole.

Rory and Jenni have been tying together for a year. With a mutual interest in body movement and dynamic rope, their tying produces playful scenes with plenty of movement, ranging from rough to flow-y, wherever their chemistry takes them on that day. They can often be found at Anatomie together, tying or teaching the Thursday introduction class together.

Alex
(she/her) is a London based Shibari practitioner with a background in dance and movement practice. Over the last years she has been working closely with a physiotherapist to explore the impact of rope bondage on the human body and how both rope partners can utilise techniques from movement practices to create an enjoyable experience. Alex enjoys sharing her techniques and approach to rope bottoming especially for challenging positions in an attempt to make rope bottoming accessible to everyone.

Who can come to this class? Are there pre-requisites?

There are no pre-requisites for this course. This class is open to all levels and complete beginners. No rope needed. No experience needed. Switching is allowed throughout the class (tying and being tied).

What should I bring and what do I wear?

We have ropes you can use during the class and we have a communal kitchenette, fridge and microwave. Tea and coffee are free but you should bring your food and snacks (we have plates and cutlery you can use). People usually wear comfortable clothing like yoga or dance attire. We advise against loose fitting clothing and also jeans can sometimes feel a bit restrictive to move around in and difficult to tie on.
