"Shoulders in TKs": keeping shoulders safe and happy in the Takate Kote - with Asimira (Berlin) and Pen (UK)
Please note the workshop timings are different than usual.
This is is one day workshop open to couples and solo attendees. The workshop focuses on anatomy and body mechanics. It is taught by a licensed physiotherapist and Berlin based rigger.
This workshop will be quite technical on a body-level rather than a rope level. There will be hands-on exercises, but prepare to get nerdy!
NOTE: in this workshop you will not learn how to tie a TK pattern. You are welcome to tie any TK you are familiar with.
All levels are welcome.
About the workshop
People that are getting tied in TKs regularly often experience some kind of shoulder issues. In this workshop we will look at some of the potential causes and solutions for pain or discomfort to improve your TK experience and help understand your body better.
Asimira is a physiotherapist and pursued this career in part to have a better understanding of the body in ropes, the shoulders especially. Even though she does not feel like she has all the answers she has a solid foundation to look for some of the possible issues and solutions.
In this workshop we will cover:
- Shoulder anatomy
- Nerve safety
- Different options for shoulder positioning
- Exercises to improve your shoulder stability or mobility
- Ways you can help your partner as a top
The workshop can be attended individual or in a couple, if you come alone you will have the opportunity to be paired in groups of 2 or 3 for some of the partnered exercises. If you have a regular tying partner that you are tying TKs with a lot it is recommended to come as a couple.
👥 Who can come?
Anyone can attend this workshop. However, it makes the most sense if you have some experience being tied in or tying TKs.
If you are someone that has been experiencing issues in TKs we would love to hear your individual experience before so we can cater to your individual issues in the best way possible. Please contact us at anna@anatomiestudio.com.
👥 Who teaches this class?
When Asimira encountered rope bondage through her art school graduation project in 2015 she fell head over heels in love and dove headfirst into the international rope scene. Ropes provided a space for her to incorporate corporeality in a playful way. Her fascination for ropes and what they can do to her own body and the bodies of others in her hands led her to start a new education in physiotherapy. As a teacher her focus is on anatomy, and on ways to be playful and intimate as soon and as often as possible when tying.
Pen (he/him) is a bottom-leaning rope switch who loves exploring the emotions and vulnerability of shibari. As a rope-bottom, he has taught and performed at events across the UK, Europe, the US, and Southeast Asia. Passionate about rope bottoming education and safety, he uses his extensive training in human anatomy and physiology to empower both bottoms and riggers to explore rope play more safely and freely.
