🪢 about this course

Discover Shibari is Anatomie’s signature 4 part shibari progressive series, offering a modern and practical approach to rope bondage. The course is taught by studio co-founders Fred and Anna, tying partners and life partners of 10 years, and focuses primarily on technique and partnership. The series will take you from complete beginner to proficient at full suspension over the duration of 4 weekend long courses. We offer a relaxed and non-dogmatic environment for you to discover shibari at your own pace.

This is the second course in our foundational course series created by Anna Bones and Fred Hatt of Anatomie Studio. There are 4 courses in total.

Course 2 builds on Course 1 and aims to deepen the knowledge of complete floor based ties and shapes. The course will focus on perfecting tension, placement and finishing touches (such as how to tidy leftover ropes, and using ropes to create detailed accents for sensation and aesthetics). We will also contextualise and motivate the ties with regards to partnered play.

The content may vary slightly depending on the group’s preferences and skill level - it will include some of the following:

  •  “Takate Kote” revision
  • “Agura”, “tengu”, arm binder ties, leg opener ties
  • Ties with bamboo (lacing and square lashing)
  • Hog tie variations
  • Hair ties and crotch ties
  • “Hojo-jutsu” style ties
  • Tying to bedposts
  • Intro to breadth play

As usual the course focuses on partnership and introduces elements of play.

👥 Your Teachers

Studio owners Fred and Anna will teach with class.

Fred and Anna
met and fell in love in 2013 and have been tying with each other ever since. They have celebrated 13 years of tying together in May 2026.

Ex-academics with a passion for rope technique, Fred and Anna's rope journey has been influenced as much by their Japanese teachers as well as by various European innovators and can be classed as somewhat "fusion" in style. This means they enjoy leaning into the more classical aspects of the practice including classic shapes and ties, but with a modern and practical flavour.

Although their focus is mostly on their local community at Anatomie, over the years their love of rope has taken them all over the world to perform and teach, they've also created rope work for various international publications, including fashion magazines and music videos.

Although they both tie outside their relationship, they teach from the perspective of a romantic couple that has lived through the ups and downs of a long term relationship in rope. In the classroom as well as on stage, Fred and Anna offer a modern and down-to-earth approach to tying, led by Fred’s nerdy sadistic inclinations punctuated by moments of tenderness and humour.

🤷  Who Can Join?

This class is a "Beginners Plus" class. See here for our class levels explained.

This class has prerequisites for riggers and rope bottoms/models – please make sure you meet these before booking to avoid disappointment on the day.

Completion of Course 1, Introduction to Shibari Course or The Takate Kote evening course gives both riggers and models the necessary prerequisites for this course. You can still join us without having completed these courses with us, but please check that you meet the prerequisites below. If in doubt please get in touch at enquiries@anatomiestudio.com

  • Riggers must know how to comfortably tie a structural upper body harness - preferably a two rope Takate Kote - taught to you in a class, workshop, private tuition or reputable online learning platform
  • Rope bottoms should be comfortable being tied in an upper body harness - ideally a TK or any other structurally sound harness taught in a class or tuition - and be familiar with the differences between nerve and circulation impingement.

Please note that Fred and Anna’s tying style is TK based. The teachers will refer to the TK throughout the class and use TK for many of the demos. Students are welcome to use other structural harnesses that suit them best and count on teacher support and feedback.

👚 What to Bring & Wear

We provide ropes for use during the class. You’ll have access to our communal kitchenette with fridge, microwave, and tea/coffee facilities — just bring your own lunch or snacks (we have plates and cutlery available).

Wear something comfortable and easy to move in, like yoga or dance clothing. Avoid restrictive clothing like jeans, as they can be tricky to tie in or restrict movement. You can change in the venue.

🔴 photo & recording device policy

  • Photos and videos are permitted only with explicit consent of everyone being captured — including staff and teachers.
  • No photos of the general public.
  • No photos with faces in the background.
  • Smart glasses are strictly forbidden in the space at all times.

We reserve the right to ask you to put smart glasses away, delete footage, or leave the venue if we see people being recorded or photographed without consent.
