🪢 about this course
Anatomie’s four-part progressive shibari series offers a modern, practical approach to rope bondage. Taught by Fred and Anna—partners in rope and in life for over a decade—this series takes you from complete beginner through to proficiency in full suspension over the course of four weekend workshops.
The focus is on technique, partnership, and communication in a relaxed, non-judgemental environment where you're encouraged to explore shibari at your own pace.
This is the fourth and final course in our foundational series, created by Anna Bones and Fred Hatt at Anatomie Studio.
What to Expect
Join us for a weekend of intensive rope practice, where you will learn to suspend safely and efficiently, and be introduced to suspension transitions. This course is open to both riggers and bottoms and includes practical exercises designed to develop skills for both roles.
You’ll cover:
- Locking off rope for full suspensions and transitions
- Transitioning into different aerial shapes
- Reading your partner and communicating mid-air
- Additional suspension harnesses (e.g. hip harnesses, mermaid ties, futomomos)
- Classic suspension positions (e.g. side suspension, face-down, inversions)
- Transition techniques using carabiners, rings, and bamboo
Important: Attending this class unprepared puts both your partner and others at risk. Please ensure you meet the pre-requisites before attending.
👥 Your Teachers
This session will be led by Fred Hatt and Anna Bones.
Fred and Anna met and fell in love in 2013 and have been tying with each other ever since. They have celebrated 12 years of tying together in May 2025.
Ex-academics with a passion for rope technique, Fred and Anna's rope journey has been influenced as much by their Japanese teachers as well as by various European innovators and can be classed as somewhat "fusion" in style. This means they enjoy leaning into the more classical aspects of the practice including classic shapes and ties, but with a modern and practical flavour.
Although their focus is mostly on their local community at Anatomie, over the years their love of rope has taken them all over the world to perform and teach, they've also created rope work for various international publications, including fashion magazines and music videos.
Although they both tie outside their relationship, they teach from the perspective of a romantic couple that has lived through the ups and downs of a long term relationship in rope. In the classroom as well as on stage, Fred and Anna offer a modern and down-to-earth approach to tying, led by Fred’s nerdy sadistic inclinations punctuated by moments of tenderness and humour.

This class has pre-requisites for both riggers and rope bottoms/models. Please ensure you meet them before booking to avoid disappointment.
Pre-requisites for Riggers:
- Completion of Course 3, or equivalent experience
- Ability to tie a safe and structurally sound upper body harness for suspension (e.g. a TK or butterfly harness)
- Understanding of nerve impingement checks and communication of suspension risks to your partner
- Previous experience tying with your chosen partner
Pre-requisites for Models:
- Comfortable being tied in an upper body harness
- Familiarity with the difference between nerve and circulation impingement
- Able to recognise and communicate signs of nerve impingement
- Capable of processing and enjoying intense sensations
While Fred and Anna use a TK-based style and will reference it in demos, students are welcome to use any structurally sound harness and will receive full support and feedback throughout.
👚 What to Bring & Wear
We provide ropes for use during the class. You’ll have access to our communal kitchenette with fridge, microwave, and tea/coffee facilities — just bring your own lunch or snacks (we have plates and cutlery available).
Wear something comfortable and easy to move in, like yoga or dance clothing. Avoid restrictive clothing like jeans, as they can be tricky to tie in or restrict movement. You can change in the venue.
Communal ropes are suitable for floor and body, but we cannot vouch for their safety as suspension lines. Please bring 3-4 ropes you trust for suspension.
