Description
About the workshop
The intention behind this class is to explore the erotic potential of floor work.
It's no secret that shibari has an arousing pull that attracts a large number of people. Perhaps the most obvious element of attraction is the conscious act of giving and receiving control, and the heightened state created through focused attention of the act. A type of attention often described as objectifying in affectionate and cruel ways. Then there are also the fetishistic qualities which are unique to rope; the way it grips and asserts force on the body, how it moves across the skin and in positions we associate with a certain emotional charge.
What does this class cover?
A few relatively simple ties will be taught, using 1-4 ropes each, to research the importance of choices in areas such as body manipulation and the quality of rope 'touch' to provoke and preserve sensual tension.
This workshop is not meant to tell truths about how to feel, or what dynamic an erotic tying session should contain, but to give tools and inspiration to play.
Who can come to this class? Are there pre-requisites?
Tying couples should feel enthusiastic about exploring sensual and intimate rope together.
For safety reasons, you should know your tying partner prior to the class in order to feel confident about your ability to communicate with each other.
People tying need to know (at least) basic tying skills well, such as being able to make single-column tie, double-column tie and simple harnesses without step-for-step instruction.
Switching is allowed between exercises but not within in order to not rush through things.
Who leads this session?
Tamandua
Tamandua is a Swedish rigger based in Berlin, Germany.
He has been working with rope professionally, primarily through teaching and offering intimate sessions to clients, since 2016.
Although topping in rope most of the time, he has significant experience bottoming for rope as well, and highly values the ability to relate to both perspectives.
As a queer person, he appreciates tying with people of various genders.
"I am drawn to the semenawa aspects of kinbaku; to enjoy the heightened state when struggling to process torment, and to have the power to control it. I consider kinbaku to be an erotic art form, consisting of aesthetic and empathetic expressions ofattraction in the realm of power exchange. It is a thing of continuous exploration – where new doors open as you go deeper, over the course of a session or over the course of an ongoing partnership. My way of tying can be challenging for both the one tying and the one being tied, demanding a lot of technical clarity in order to be taught well. As a teacher I set out to consider the various needs of students, and the ways content can be adapted so that they can implement it into their tying in a meaningful way."
Briki
Briki is a rope bottom and a rope switch with deep knowledge of the body, originated in contemporary dance and yoga.
"My passion for rope bondage centres around sublime border states and the beauty of erotic extremes – where I believe the partnership and the cooperation between tying and tied to be the core of the practice. In the role of being tied, I’m often drawn to the complexity of power exchange, objectification and suffering. I'm also interested in bottomhood, the practical knowledge developed in the one being tied and the exploration of self through submission."
What should I bring and what do I wear?
We have ropes you can use during the class and we have a communal kitchenette, fridge and microwave. Tea and coffee are free but you should bring your food and snacks (we have plates and cutlery you can use). People usually wear comfortable clothing like yoga or dance attire. We advise against loose fitting clothing and also jeans can sometimes feel a bit restrictive to move around in and difficult to tie on.
