&Piano - the young and exciting Slaithwaite-based music festival that showcases classical music performed by some of the best professional performers in the North, launches its 2023 Festival with a special gig in the cool and cosy surroundings of Slaithwaite's award winning coffee roaster Dark Woods Coffee HQ. Part of what we do is getting classical music out of traditional concert venues, helping more people to discover how amazing the genre is.

For this gig we’ve brought together an eclectic combination of singer and saxophonist to dazzle you, and we're throwing the musical kitchen sink at this one, with a fantastically varied programme of music spanning centuries! Opera, Jazz, Musical Theatre, Contemporary music, Classical music, Romantic music...

We have an incredibly versatile singer Aimee Fisk, described as having a ‘voice of extraordinary power and beauty’ - Aimee trained as an classical singer in the UK, Hungary and Italy and now performs regularly with Opera North. But she’s also an accomplished jazz singer, and you can often find her performing jazz standards at The Head of Steam in Leeds. 

Expect a real smorgasbord of vocal treats including stunning Opera bangers like ‘O Mio Babino Caro’ to classics from the American Songbook. 

Alongside Aimee, we have award winning Manchester-based saxophonist Gillian Blair. Gillian, praised for her ‘flawless and accomplished’ performances, has performed all over Europe, North America and Asia and recently released her debut solo CD, Infinite Stories - which showcases a number of works for saxophone by female composers. 

Expect moody reflective sounds alongside some exhilarating and impressive musical fireworks. Aimee and Gillian will be accompanied on keys by Artistic Director of &Piano, Chris Pulleyn.
