&Piano 2023 Event #2 | Instrumental: Something Old, Something New...Franz Schubert & Hans Zimmer
Fri 19 May 2023 7:30 PM - 9:30 PM BST
St James' Church, Slaithwaite, HD5 7AW
Description
Schubert's Piano Quintet ('Trout') & music from TV, Film & Video Games.
Featuring Avenue Ensemble - Violin: Tom Greed, Viola: Lourenço Sampaio, Cello: Dan Bull & Double Bass: Nathan Knight, Piano: Christopher Pulleyn
Since &Piano was first conceived back in 2018, we've showcased a member of the string instrument family as a soloist - violin, viola, cello...this year we're introducing one more member, and the largest of the bunch - the double bass - but not as a soloist...for this special Year of Music we're bringing Violin, Viola, Cello, Double Bass & Piano altogether to form a Piano Quintet.
We're delighted to welcome Avenue Ensemble - a Leeds-based group of professional musicians that bring classical music into unusual venues and locations around the North of England. Determined to bring the music we love to new and more diverse audiences, like &Piano, they work to break down some of the barriers that people face when approaching this genre of music. You'll often find their gigs in pubs and bars, where they play anything from Bach to music from Film & TV.
This evening, we're going from one end of musical history to another. For the first half, we're going back to a piece of music written all the way back in 1819 - Franz Schubert's 'Trout' Quintet - a joyous happy piece with a rich bass line supported by the Double Bass, and the violin and piano sparkling on the top.
Then for the second half of this concert, Avenue Ensemble take over to perform a explore some of the most iconic music for TV, Video Game & Film. Expect music by Hans Zimmer (Interstellar, The Crown), John Williams (Star Wars, Harry Potter), Ramin Djawadi (Game of Thrones), & Bear McCreary (God of War, The Rings of Power).
From an old classic that is still being played 200 years on, to instantly recognisable tunes that are part of our present-day lives - this evening will be packed full of great, entertaining music, we know anyone will enjoy!
