Zoology Club – Level 2 (3-week block)

Our Level 2 Zoology Club is a follow-on from our Level 1 course and is designed for children who love animals and want to explore the animal world in more detail. These sessions go a little deeper, with more science, more discussion, and plenty of hands-on learning using real animals, microscopes, specimens, feathers, skins, skeletons, owl pellets and more. With our course, hands on time with our incredible animal ambassadors!

Children do not need to have attended Level 1 to join. The sessions are still fun and practical, but they are best suited to children who are happy to listen, ask questions, and take part in slightly more in-depth activities.

This 3-week block will explore some of the strangest and most fascinating parts of animal biology, including how animals eat, how they sense the world around them, and the incredible ways they survive in the wild.

Topics in this block will include:

Week 1 -  9th June – Teeth, Diet, Digestion & Weird Biology

How different animals eat, why their teeth are shaped the way they are, how digestion works in birds, reptiles and mammals, what owl pellets are, why rabbits eat their own poo, and other strange but real parts of animal biology.

Week 2 – 16th June - Animal Superpowers & Strange Senses

How animals see, hear, smell and sense the world in ways humans can’t, including night vision, heat sensing, whiskers, silent flight, and other amazing abilities that help animals survive.

Week 3 – 23rd June -  Venom, Defence & Extreme Survival

The incredible ways animals stay alive in the wild, from venom and poison to armour, camouflage, speed and strength, and some of the most extreme survival skills found in the animal kingdom.

As always, sessions are hands-on, welfare-led, and designed to be fun, educational, and a little bit different from our usual animal encounters.

Tickets are per person attending the session, as space in the room is limited and we need to keep numbers manageable for both safety and animal welfare. Adults are very welcome to stay and join in, but if you would like to be in the room during the session you will need a ticket, as each person takes up space needed for the animals and the group setup.
