Tabooboo Play: FEED THE DEAD (with Larissa)
Sun Oct 22, 2023 10:00 AM - 12:30 PM PDT
Online, Zoom
Description
This session of Tabooboo Play will focus on nourishing the ancestral realms with our bold, curious, and high integrity PLAY of some of our most common ancestral ghosts. Part ritual offering part play-practice. "Tabooboos" are qualities, experiences, and roles that we tend to avoid or crave individually and collectively. We will build our capacity to enjoy working from Totality, incorporating exiled elements like pain and exhaustion in our expression as opposed to narrow definitions of art or beauty (organic deviance). We will also train in how to ride out intense energy shifts and release without overwhelming ourselves or the collective field (ecstatic restraint). Our "techniques" will include meditation/contemplation, character development and interviews, live coaching, witnessing, and reflection processes.
The cut off to sign up for this event is one hour before start time. You must attend live, there will be no recordings sent to drop in participants.
Here is our general blurb about Tabooboo Play and Nondual Theater Jams: This is Embodied Research guided by nondual (holistic) animist principles, the roots of creative expression, and play. Devising as metabolizing, and metabolizing as devising! Varies each month. Training in light ritual improv, devising, subtle sensing, and co-dreaming. They will include elements from previous offerings like Deathclown methods, Social Curious, lay the f*ck down, What Play Be, as well as our combined training in Viewpoints, Buffon, Butoh, Systemic Constellations, Theater of the Oppressed, Physical Theater, and more. As always our knowledge of nervous system health, how organisms learn, and nondual animist relating will steward everything we do.
For many eras in our ancestral history, and in contemporary subcultures and primary cultures across the globe that have been somewhat insulated from the effects of westernism, people use basic theater structures to externalize inner knowings, clarify necessary communications, and revitalize the community and local ecosystems with deep listening, play, shapeshifting, and tending. These structures were not relegated to “artists”, only occurring in places named “theaters”, but were folded into daily life of all people, as well as ritually and cyclically relevant times throughout the year. Claiming that theater and artmaking only belong to a certain group of people, who typically have been taken through a very specific mode of training that often completely forgets about having any context, is getting in the way of the most accessible and transformative human technology available.
We use ancestral theater and artmaking techniques to think out loud together. To shape new paradigms and culture. To liberate our relationship to creative practice whether we are a “professional” or beginner. This is a “jam” in the sense that those who participate are coming in at the ground level, at the edge of what is coming through. It is NOT a highly systematized practice, although we are sourcing from some systematized influences and distinct patterns can emerge. As the facilitators we are always listening and making adjustments according to the fluctuations in energy, who is present, and what is possible. Participants are not required to have any previous experience, but ready to engage in (thoroughly held and facilitated) experimental playspaces.
