The Dreaming Cauldron: Participatory Art and Communal Experience
Sat Dec 23, 2023 1:00 PM - 1:00 AM
Bridgespace Commons, 97214
Description
*THE NEW EVENT DATE IS DEC 23RD* (we had to postpone due to illness)
The dreaming cauldron is an afternoon and evening retreat that includes a workshop, film-performance, potluck dinner, spacious lounge time, and whatever else the attendees may want to experiment with. Together we “look forward to rest” as the northern hemisphere turns toward the still point of the winter solstice. We work with the voice of the season, moving downward, inward, and into the open dreaming of yin.
Larissa Kaul, nondual animist artist-facilitator, will be offering a film-performance held within a communal ritual structure that invites all participants to join. The workshop earlier in the day will be an exploration of some of our original ancestral technologies of sound, rhythm, sensing, movement, deep listening, and shapeshifting. The workshop will assist us in shedding habitual programming and social contortions so that we can enter into a state of potential communion, with each other and the beyond human realms. There are no prerequisites to attend the workshop, and there will be different ways to participate according to interest and capacity. Workshop attendees will be invited to participate in the interactive ritual portions of the performance in the evening.
After our potluck dinner will be Tending the Flame Feast!
(immersive clown theater of the senses and nonsenses hosted by Hallow Gramma!)
Immersive Performance Theater: Silly, (non)sense-making, asmr-edging, group prayer-playing activities and digestive listening techniques to practice with your friends at dinner! What to expect: There will be an invitation into a group light-movement session before the meal, weaving our hunger and chi with our imagination through writing/ spoken word and Touch with our 5 senses (and beyond). No interpersonal physical contact required. Sitting / lounging accessible at any time.
Gifting: Feel free to bring / prepare an object or written piece to offer at the alter + potluck table. \
Performance Overview: We will focus on the idea of Flame and its many facets. In this environment, HolloGramma is guided by practices in clown, butoh and death / digestion.
This immersive sensorium focuses on flame and body as warmth. Participants are invited, through one another, our hands, various body centers, and feet to cohabitate the performance space before, during and after the potluck portion of The Dreaming Cauldron event.
Tending the Lame Fame Flame Feast is a process, where all can contemplate and reflect together in play as prayer theater during our shared meal experience. Participants can feast or abstain as needed, and request support in open question and group-share portions of the evening.

The space is large enough to accommodate a few artists and crafters who are looking to showcase some of their work. It's our first time running this event so we can't guarantee numbers of ppl who might be coming through, but there's no table rent. A good situation for someone who isn't heavily relying on sales but wants an opportunity to try out running a table.
We are also looking for people to contribute food for the potluck.
We could use help running the door and helping with cleanup. These positions could be work-trade if you're someone who wouldn't be able to offer a donation.
Wanting to bring something else? Play some music? Do tarot readings? A lot is possible, just let us know.
*PLEASE NOTE* there will be some photography and video recording of the event, esp of the film-performance.
Access info:
Bridgespace Commons is not wheelchair accessible (yet). There are a set of about 10 steps leading into the front entrance. Masks are not required inside, everyone can wear masks and practice social distancing according to their needs. There are multiple bathrooms, two of which are up a set of stairs. There is one larger bathroom on the ground floor. The main room is wood floor, and we ask that people take their shoes off at the entrance if possible so that we can enjoy relatively clean floor space for laying, sprawling, dancing, lounging. The building is usually warm enough but you may want to bring layers, and thick socks. Please bring whatever blankets, cushions, or portable seating you might want. There will be floor space, couches, and chairs available. Anyone bringing food is asked to include a list of ingredients for their dishes. Bridgespace Commons is a work-in-progress experiment in self governance and DIY events. Things are not always super clean or organized, it's imperfect. Adjust expectations accordingly, and feel free to communicate with the organizers about how to pitch in to improve something.
