Another People Place - A Summers Day on Civic Street

Summer is here and we've got something special lined up to celebrate! We'll be back at Civic House for a special extended party on the 11th July. We'll be starting early at 4pm with live music, food, and other activities outside! From 8pm onwards we move inside the venue with the full soundsystem rig as usual and a special guest that we're extremely excited about...

Outside (4-8pm): Party on Civic Street!

From 4pm we'll be making use of newly renovated outdoor space across the road from Civic House. We're delighted to have a programme of live music and DJs who will be performing from the afternoon into the evening. Featuring:

• Terra Kin - Hannah Findlay has been a dynamic force in Glasgow's jazz, folk, and pop scenes for many years. Blending fingerstyle guitar, atmospheric soundscapes and "crunchy" harmonies. Hannah has carved out a distinctive sound, culminating into solo project "Terra Kin”
• Kozyeli - Kozyeli provides the function with hip-hop tunes that encourage and inspire authenticity in oneself, positivity, transparency, alchemy and open-mindedness. These ideals reflect in their flow, word play, and beat selection. Expect sparkly melodies, big boy drums, big girl bars and big energy
• Ponta-Cabeça -  Glasgow-based project that shares traditional Brazilian cultures of resistance. Traditional Brazilian music with experimentation in rhythms, storytelling and collaborative performance
• Mark Quinn (Greenhouse Records) - One half of Edinburgh speciality record shop, Mark will be sound tracking the afternoon in between sets with an eclectic mix of underground dance music and sounds from across the world

We'll also have food being served and stalls from local groups - more info on this soon! There'll be seating, drinks, green space for relaxing and hanging out and cover for shade or in the case of abject weather

Entry for this portion of the event will be free! We do have a free ticket option available just to help us gauge numbers - if you're definitely coming it would be appreciated if you could pick one up but not required on the day. Family friendly as well!

Inside (8pm-12:30am): Another People Place w/ OG

We're absolutely delighted to be welcoming someone we've dreamed of bringing up north since day one. London based DJ, Oscar aka OG will be joining us behind the decks for the night. For years he sound-tracked our mornings on the airwaves with a record bag full of sunshine and we cannot wait to experience it in person. A member of London soundsystem crew Cheeky Soundsystem who've been throwing parties around the country for more than a decade, the collective last year embarked on a new project of opening up Club Cheek - a truly independent space in the heart of Brixton in a landscape where such spaces feel feeling increasingly difficult to come by. With a shared love of the DIY and community-focused ethos this is going to be a genuinely special moment for us - if you know you know and if you don't then come and find out 🌟

Same room downstairs in Civic House kitted out with our full setup of 4-point soundsystem, dancefloor and other sonic and visual goodies. As we move inside for the evening this will be a ticketed event with a limited capacity. Tickets on sale now!

About Us

For the uninitiated, we are a soundsystem, party and community of friends dedicated to the deepest soulful sounds, and a house party feel. Weaving through a musical tapestry cut from the cosmos, rooted in the lineage of black music from Detroit, Chicago and beyond, we aim to channel elevated and interconnected musical unity here in Glasgow, keeping the ears safe and the soul warm. In other words, mon' doon for a good old boogie!!

Over the past year or so we have been developing our own handbuilt soundsystem to deliver HiFi with a punch. Along these regular nights at Civic House we've also been sharing the vibrations with the southside for Vita Nova @ McNeills . With our own party we want to create a dancing space unique to Glasgow, and beyond our soundsystem we dress up the venue space fit for a cosmic journey together. Not just that, but we will be setting up our portable parquet wooden dancefloor that we drove across the country in a van to pick up - a very proud facebook marketplace mission. A fleet of our own custom sound insulation panels will also be featured to create the warmest and cleanest sound we can in the space!

• A unique sound system in Glasgow. Two stacks of carefully tuned speakers featuring classic Altec designs powered by modern drivers and amplification

• An intimate dancing space decorated to transport us across the cosmos. Also featuring a springy wooden dancefloor

• Deep, warm and soulful musical selections inspired by the likes of Theo Parrish, Kenny Dixon Jr and Ront Trent

• A house party feel

Accessibility

We are on the ground floor of Civic House, which involves a small set of steps to access from the street. There is a platform lift adjacent to the main entrance, an accessible toilet, and assistance can be provided by staff.

No one turned away for lack of funds, give us a shout if cost is a barrier and we'll sort something out!
