Description
Scottish Knocks: The Story of Scottish Turret Clock Manufacture
by Mark Crangle
Scotland and England have always had their differences and horology is no different. In his lecture, Mark will present an overview of the evolution of public timekeeping north of the border, from the early wrought-iron clocks in the towns and villages through the Reformation to the grandeur of the Victorian era and beyond. The need for public timekeeping has always been there and is constantly evolving. Scotland is a small country, but it has more than its fair share of pioneers in horology.
Mark has always had a passion for horology. He was born and brought up in Paisley, a large town on the outskirts of Glasgow. Twenty years ago, he started work for the Cumbria Clock Company where he has worked ever since, and he is now the Works Manager. Over the years he has had the privilege of working all over the UK and beyond from royal palaces to the Great Clock at Westminster. Recently he returned from installing a restored clock for St Paul’s convent, Hong Kong.
