Black Body Heart Mind: Healing Retreat
Black Body Heart Mind: Healing Retreat
Black Body Heart Mind Consultancy is extending an invitation to all Black and Brown beings across the UK to attend a weekend of healing at a specialist retreat in Cumbria on 19th, 20th, and 21st of September 2025. The venue is a ‘takeover’ of Higham Hall, nestled in the beautiful rolling hills of North West Cumbria just outside the market town of Cockermouth.
Running from the Friday afternoon to the Sunday afternoon, this retreat provides a safe, inclusive space for Black and Brown bodies. Hosted by Rowan Carr, an experienced facilitator in healing arts, yoga, meditation, and anti-racism, the retreat focuses on healing racialised wounds in a restorative environment free from the white gaze
The "takeover" of the venue ensures participants can fully express themselves without fear of judgement. This setting forms the first step toward Cultural Repair, the central theme of the weekend.
What is Cultural Repair?
Historically, all cultures viewed the ancestors as custodians of culture, family wellness and connection to land and belonging. Sadly, this connection has been degraded over time, especially for Black and Brown people.
Reintroducing the importance of ancestral guidance in healing Black and Brown bodies, the retreat responds to this loss by providing an unrestricted approach to ancestral remembrance and reverence , offering participants tools for invoking ancestral blessings and support in daily life. Through movement, song, ritual, meditation, and somatic practices, attendees will learn to connect with their ancestors who are well and reintroduce the importance of ancestral guidance. This practice will deepen healing and strengthen ways to be resourced against white supremacist systems.
