Raqs Sharqi Basics for Exercise and Social Dance

Come explore the art of Raqs Sharqi (aka: Egyptian-Style “Bellydance”) in a casual, informal setting while raising money for a great cause. This class is for women looking for a way to get some exercise and to connect with other women in a fun and supportive environment.

Classes will focus on drilling classic Raqs Sharqi movements and travel steps, and exploring basic Arabic folk dance concepts for joining in social dances at weddings, parties, and other events. Classes will also feature popular Arabic dance songs and highlight beginning concepts of musicality in Arab dance.

Classes are for all levels, beginning or advanced. Native dancers are highly encouraged to attend and share their favorite moves!

All classes are drop-in friendly and are intended for social dancing, exercise, and fun.

Suggested Donation (No one will be turned away for lack of funds):

• All 5 classes: $110

• Each class: $25

*Proceeds from this dance series will benefit the AACC and The Middle East Children’s Alliance.

About the Instructor:

Stephanie is a singer and Middle Eastern dance artist from Central California. She sings in Arabic in the Bay Area with the Aswat Ensemble and the Stanford Middle East Ensemble, and she has been a student of different forms of “bellydance,” Raqs Sharqi, and Arabic folk dances since 1998. She cares deeply about social justice issues, children’s rights, and about building community through cultural sharing and connection. This is her first collaboration with the AACC, and it is her great honor and privilege to contribute and serve this community.
