We head out into the darkness of the moor beneath a near-total lunar eclipse, making our way through one of Cornwall’s most ancient and atmospheric landscapes to witness the moon turn a deep blood red.
Join me for a quiet pre-dawn walk across the moor to the ancient stones of Men-an-Tol and the Nine Maidens Stone Circle, where we’ll pause to watch the eclipse reach near totality in the stillness before sunrise.
I’ll bring binoculars so we can follow the changing colours and shadows across the moon as the Earth’s shadow slowly covers it. As the eclipse fades, we’ll stay to watch the first light of dawn spread across the horizon and the moor awaken around us.
This is a moderate walk over uneven moorland terrain in low light, so sturdy footwear, warm layers, and a torch are essential.
