In the first of a series of talks by architect developers, Mark Shaw will discuss the two houses that he and two architect friends built in Walthamstow, east London.
The series is aimed at architects who would like to know more about the opportunities and challenges around being an independent developer, including spotting creative solutions that a non-architect developer will often miss. Future speakers include Donald Matheson, Sophie Goldhill and Alex Wright.
Mark Shaw founded London-based Studioshaw in 2016 focused on low energy, sustainable development. The practice is currently working on an apartment building in Hackney Wick, a new theatre and restaurant in Bethnal Green and a community housing scheme in Somerset.
Amanda Baillieu and Gus Zogolovitch set up Developer Collective in 2018 to teach professionals how to become design-led property developers and give them the contacts and resources to deliver their projects. Their book How to be an Architect Developer will be published by RIBA in September 2023.
The event will be followed by networking drinks and nibbles.
